Merry Christmas to all those who celebrate this holiday! This week most of my time has been dedicated to preparing for Christmas. I’m in the dance ministry at my church, St. Augustine Catholic Church in Washington, DC, and we have been rehearsing every night for Midnight Mass and our pre- Mass celebration. Our hard work and practice paid off and it was a MAGNIFICENT night/morning! What a Blessed way to bring in the Christmas celebration!
In preparing for Christmas I also observed how much more the Laws of Givng and Forgiveness are in effect during this season. It’s one of the many reasons why this is my favorite holiday. It’s always wonderful to see people being more generous and more forgiving but it also saddens me that, for many, it only lasts a season. We hear Stevie Wonder on the radio singing “Someday at Christmastime” and I think of what a world it would be if everyone would only instill these laws into their daily lives and not just at Christmas….if we all would just give a little more of ourselves and also be more forgiving. Being more forgiving also helps us be more positive. The Mental Diet and Law of Substitution become “effortless” when we are forgiving because we cannot forgive and hold negative thoughts simultaneously. We cannot forgive that person for cutting us off in traffic and also curse them out for doing so. We cannot forgive that person holding up the line at the grocery store and think that whatever they’re doing to cause the hold up is negative; it’s impossible.
It starts with us and realizing that we have the “Greatest Gift”; the gift of life and we can share our gift with all we encounter through the Laws of Giving and Forgiveness. So, regardless of whether or not you believe in Christmas or celebrate this holiday, the principle of the holiday is applicable to all in that we all, as humans, are called to share ourselves through the Law of Giving and to forgive others (and ourselves) through the Law of Forgiveness.
So, my hope, wish, prayer is that we all make “someday at Christmas” be today.
Until next time…
